On the other hand, you can use it on a character that has already reached max level, like your thief. If you don't want to use the boost as a way to bypass levelling another character, this might be the easiest way for you The grind is the worst part about MMO's, just boost it. Especially since you get the feel of your core class but once you're 80 you need to collect more masteries to level you elite spec then need to learn to play the elite spec you choose. I'd buy 80 boosters from the store 100% if they were available. 0-80 seems like a waste of time to me. If leveling were difficult, then I would say just boost.
